Telegram Suggests Keeping Personal Data in Blockchain Passports

The first service of the blockchain platform TON (Telegram Open Network) is now passing closed testing. Personal data storage is one of the platform’s solutions, reports the Russian resource “Vedomosti.

The service Telegram Passport will help to identify a Telegram’s user. Loading all the documents and data into the messenger only once, one will be able to immediately pass them via Telegram to the partner services and use their services on their websites as well as inside the Telegram. As the informational resource reports, the service will be launched in summer this year.

The information about the TON platform launching was revealed at the end of last year. Telegram raised $1.7 billion for its platform during two rounds of private pre-sales.

The whole new economics will appear, filled with goods and services that could be paid with cryptocurrency

– this is how Telegram described its new platform.

The TON ecosystem will include various services, products, and apps, specified the message to the Telegram users, and the personal cryptocurrency Gram will be in circulation on the platform. It will become the main currency of the inner Telegram’s economics. Telegram representatives believe that hundreds of millions of users all over the world will use it.

Aleksandr Filatov, one of the partners of the investment and consulting company SP Capital – the company that invested in TON, explains:

Telegram Passport will allow avoiding anonymity of the cryptocurrency payments which is so disturbing for the regulators all over the world.

The users will be able to make use of the services of several partners as soon as the new service is launched. It is known that the payment system Qiwi has already received the access to the technology.

Telegram Passport will be able to keep domestic and foreign passports, drivers’ licenses, utility bills, bank statements, and other documents. Also, it will ask a user to take a photo, says the private page of the website telegram.org. The access to the passed personal data and document copies will remain in the users only – he/she will encrypt the information by the two-factor authentication password, and the messenger itself won’t have access to it. 

Aleksandr Filatov assures that the TON developers aim at maximum protection for the users.

In China, the messenger WeChat has already implemented the money transferring between the users and the platform for the embedded to the WeChat services. Now, it is testing a digital ID with the facial recognition technology. Apple, with its Face ID, and other technology giants work in the same direction.
