Turkcell Joined the Blockchain Consortium CBSG

Cell operator Turkcell has become a part of the Blockchain Consortium Carrier Blockchain that was launched in 2017. The Consortium aims at providing the new type of services to its clients.

On Monday, July 9, Turkcell, a leading cellular operator in Turkey announced the joining to the Blockchain Consortium Blockchain Study Group (CBSG). Due to the blockchain technology that allows the transfer of valuable digital assets via the mobile networks, the digital economics will develop rapidly and provide the new generation of services,

- said in his announcement Turkcell CEO Kaan Terzioglu.

Last year, four companies created CBSG. Among them were the American cell operator Sprint Corp., blockchain company TBCASoft, Japanese mobile services company Softbank and Taiwan telecommunication services company Far EasTone.

Blockchain can speed up the development of digital economics via the transportation of valuable digital assets through the mobile networks securely and transparently. This will help us offer the new services to our users. We should look beyond the simple expansion of connection to the already existing telecommunication structures. As the mobile operators, we have good possibilities for offering the ecosystem “blockchain-as-a-service,” and we should leverage this possibility,

- Terzioglu said in his announcement devoted to the CBSG membership.

Besides founder, such leading telecommunication companies as Axiata Group Berhad from Malaysia, PLDT from the Philippines, Telekomunikasi Indonesia International, Vietnamese group Viettel, and Zain Group from Kuwait joined the Consortium.

In February 2018, the South Korean KT Corporation and its subsidiary LG Uplus, UAE company Etisalat Group and Spanish Telefonica entered the club.

CBSG aims at providing its clients and members easy access to such digital solutions as payments authentication, and IoT applications. Turkcell, headquartered in Istanbul, is a leading cellular operator in Turkey, with 69 million of subscribers in nine countries, as of 2015. Turkcell has a place among the Forbes list of top 2000 biggest companies in the world. Also, it is a single Turkish company that is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
